SURPLUS WIRE FOR ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS
Every contractor ends a job with wire that was ordered for a pull that changed. The reels go back to the shop, get stacked behind the gang box, and stay there until someone needs the floor space.
Contractor surplus is usually the cleanest material we see: factory tags, known footage, and a paper trail from the supply house. THHN and XHHW partial reels, MC and AC coils, SER and SEU cut lengths, tray cable from a panel change, and service-entrance cable from an upgraded service all come out of the same shop.
The pattern repeats across Denver: a tenant improvement is value-engineered after the wire is released, a service is upsized after the utility responds, or a job closes with three half-reels of 4/0. None of that wire is scrap, and it should not be priced like scrap.
Send the shop inventory as a list — gauge, construction, approximate footage per reel — with a photo of each tag. We review the list, tell you which reels are worth quoting, and discuss pickup from the shop or the jobsite. If the material is spread across two service vans and a storage unit, say so; logistics get worked out after the material review.
Material that typically shows up
- Partial and full reels of THHN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2
- MC, AC and HCF coils from branch-circuit work
- SER, SEU and URD cut lengths from service work
- Tray and VFD cable from industrial and plant jobs
- Service-entrance and feeder cable after an upgrade
- Leftover Cat6, fire alarm and low-voltage boxes
One thing worth knowing
Contractors often ask whether small lots are worth the call. If a shop has twenty partial reels, that is a real lot even though no single reel is large. Send the list once; there is no charge to have it reviewed.
Next step
Send the list and the photos
The fastest submission is a list with one line per reel and photos of the tags. If the material is in more than one place, say where each group is — logistics can be planned after the review.
