Buying surplus electrical wire and cable in Denver, Colorado

Category 03 — Tray and drive cable

SELL SURPLUS TRAY AND VFD CABLE

Tray cable and variable-frequency-drive cable are plant materials. They are bought for a specific drive or a specific tray run, and when the panel schedule changes the leftovers sit on a shelf with the tag still readable.

Racked inventory along a warehouse aisle. Slow-moving reels are still cable, not scrap.
Send the tag. The printed legend decides the price more often than the weight does. One flat, well-lit photo of the tag saves a phone call.

Tray, PLTC and drive cable

TC and TC-ER cable with exposed-run ratings, PLTC for instrumentation trays, and VFD cable with the symmetrical grounding and overall shield that drive manufacturers specify. Constructions from 18 AWG control pairs up to 4/0 power conductors are reviewed, along with hybrid and composite cables.

Also common in the same lot: SER, SEU, URD and USE-2 direct-burial cable, MC and AC armored cable, and SOOW flexible cord. Send the whole shelf if it came out of the same storeroom — one quote beats five.

What the label tells us

For VFD cable, the shield type and the presence of three symmetrical grounds affect value, so photograph the legend and the cut end together. For tray cable, the voltage rating and the temperature column matter as much as the conductor size.

If the reel has a factory length tag, include it. If it does not, measure the wrap depth against the flange or send a weight from the shipping ticket.

Constructions in this category

  • TC / TC-ER Tray cable, with TC-ER rated for exposed runs between tray and equipment.
  • PLTC Power-limited tray cable for instrumentation and control circuits.
  • VFD cable Shielded drive cable, often with three symmetrical grounds and a rugged jacket.
  • Composite / hybrid Power and control conductors under one jacket; reviewed by construction.

What to include with your quote request

These details turn a question into a number. Anything you do not know can be estimated; say that it is an estimate.

  • Cable family (TC, TC-ER, PLTC, VFD) as printed on the legend
  • Conductor size and count, plus shield or drain-wire details
  • Voltage rating and temperature rating
  • Approximate footage per reel, and reel count
  • Photos of the legend, the cut end and the full reel

Not sure whether it is worth quoting?

Send it anyway. A short reel, an odd construction or a faded tag costs nothing to review, and the answer is usually more useful than the guess.

Questions

Tray & VFD Cable questions

All FAQs

Do you buy partially used VFD cable reels?

Yes. Drive cable is quoted on the remaining footage and the construction. A partial reel with a clean cut end and a readable shield is a normal submission.

What about cable that has been in a tray?

Pulled cable is reviewed as used material. Remove staples and ties, coil it on a reel or in a figure-eight, and photograph the jacket condition along a few feet so we can see abrasion or UV damage.
