Buying surplus electrical wire and cable in Denver, Colorado

Category 08 — Low voltage

SELL SURPLUS LOW-VOLTAGE AND COMMUNICATION CABLE

Low-voltage cable is bought in boxes, not reels, and it accumulates fast: partial boxes of fire alarm cable, Cat6 left from a tenant improvement, coax from a decommissioned headend. We review boxes, spools and reels together.

Send the tag. The printed legend decides the price more often than the weight does. One flat, well-lit photo of the tag saves a phone call.

What counts as low voltage here

Fire-alarm cable in FPLR, FPLP and riser constructions, communication and data cable from Cat3 through Cat6A, coaxial cable, security and access-control cable, irrigation and lighting control cable, and low-voltage specialty industrial cable.

Speaker cable, thermostat wire and alarm wire are welcome in the same lot. These are small-value items individually and worthwhile as a group, so list the box counts rather than one box at a time.

Boxes, spools and part boxes

Photograph the box label, which prints the part number, the length and the rating, then the remaining spool inside. A part box with 300 of 1,000 feet left is still quotable. Loose coils need a length estimate and a clear photo of the jacket print.

Plenum-rated cable is worth noting separately from riser and general-purpose cable, because the rating changes who can use it.

Constructions in this category

  • Fire alarm FPLR, FPLP and general fire-protective signalling cable, solid or stranded.
  • Data / communication Cat3, Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A, shielded or unshielded, plenum or riser.
  • Coaxial RG6, RG11 and similar, in boxes or on spools.
  • Security and control Access control, burglar alarm, irrigation and lighting control cable.

What to include with your quote request

These details turn a question into a number. Anything you do not know can be estimated; say that it is an estimate.

  • Cable type and rating (FPLR, CMP, CMR, CM)
  • Category or part number from the box label
  • Box count and remaining length per box
  • Shielded or unshielded, plenum or riser
  • Photos of each box label and the spool inside

Not sure whether it is worth quoting?

Send it anyway. A short reel, an odd construction or a faded tag costs nothing to review, and the answer is usually more useful than the guess.

All FAQs

Do you buy partial boxes of Cat6?

Yes, with the label visible and a reasonable estimate of what is left. Box counts matter more than individual part boxes.

Is plenum cable handled differently?

It is noted separately because the rating limits where it can be installed. Send the box label so the rating is clear.
