Flexible cord and welding cable get bought in bulk for a shutdown, then half of it goes back on the shelf. SOOW, SJOOW and welding cable are quoted by gauge, conductor count and remaining length.
Portable cord and welding cable
SOOW and SJOOW portable cord from 18 AWG to 2 AWG, two- through five-conductor, in coils or on reels. Welding cable in 6 through 4/0, plus flexible control cable, festoon and pendant cable, and diesel-locomotive-style flexible power cable when it is part of the lot.

Jacket condition is the whole story
Flexible cable is judged on the jacket. Sun fade, abrasion, flattening and stiff insulation all reduce what a reel is worth. Photograph a few feet of the jacket in daylight and include the print legend, which for portable cord usually sits in a repeating band.
Coil used cable in a figure-eight or on a reel — never in a tight bundle — and note whether the ends are taped. That also makes the length easier to confirm.

Do you buy used SOOW cord?
Sometimes, when the jacket is intact and the length is useful. Describe the condition honestly and include photos along the run rather than only the coil.
Can welding cable be quoted by weight?
It can start there, but the gauge and length drive the final number. A weight alone rarely prices a welding-cable lot accurately.
